Book Description

The unsustainable use of land and water resources is expected to increase in the next few decades, causing many problems including increased land subsidence and the associated environmental impacts. Land subsidence is the loss of land elevation and is most prevalent in coastal and highly urbanized areas where groundwater is extracted from confined aquifers. This book outlines the general concepts relevant to land subsidence as well as measurement techniques and locations of the occurrence of major land subsidence throughout the world. The understanding of anthropogenic land subsidence has progressed rapidly in the past century and this book highlights the advances in technology that have allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
